AI-enabled Workforce brings a new era of tech power in the workplace

In his analysis brief for International Data Corporation (IDC), Linn Huang, Research Vice President, Devices and Displays at IDC stated: “The artificial intelligence (AI) age is upon us, and its arrival marks a new era for businesses and the workforce. Companies are accelerating their AI investments as they move from experimentation to broad deployment, with far-ranging goals that include improving productivity, speeding innovation, and carving fresh competitive moats.”

“At the end-user level, AI promises to automate processes that currently require significant levels of human attention. This transformation will reshape both system workloads and human job descriptions. To accomplish this, AI will need to be seamless across cloud, data center, edge, and client devices,” he added.

The Research VP noted that the client side of this equation is covered by new AI PCs, defined as PCs with integrated neural processing units (NPUs) that run local AI workloads as efficiently as possible. Software developers are working with the purveyors of these processors to support NPUs more widely. He further said that OS vendors are baking AI into existing applications and creating new experiences on an ongoing basis, while businesses experiment with artificial intelligence and map out the problems it can best help solve.

High-Resolution Scanning: Ricoh scanners capture images in high resolution, producing clear and detailed digital copies suitable for various document types.

Speed and Efficiency: These scanners offer fast scanning speeds to efficiently handle large document volumes, ultimately enhancing workplace productivity.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR): Integrated OCR technology allows for the conversion of scanned documents into editable and searchable text, simplifying document management and retrieval.

Multi-Feed Detection: Built-in sensors prevent misfeeds by detecting when multiple pages are pulled into the scanner at once, ensuring every page is accurately scanned.

Network Connectivity: Ricoh scanners offer options for network connectivity, enabling multiple users to access the scanner from different devices and facilitating convenient sharing and storage of scanned documents.

Automatic Document Feeder (ADF): The ADF feature allows for the scanning of multi-page documents without the need for manual page feeding, saving time and effort.

Double-Sided Scanning: Ricoh scanners are capable of simultaneous two-sided scanning, known as duplex scanning, essential for efficient document processing.

Image Enhancement Tools: Software features clean up and enhance the quality of scanned images, improving legibility by removing imperfections and adjusting alignment.

Security Features: Ricoh scanners are equipped with advanced security measures to protect sensitive information, including options for password protection, data encryption, and secure file transmission.

Compatibility and Integration: These scanners are compatible with various operating systems and seamlessly integrate with document management systems and cloud storage solutions.

Compact Design and Energy Efficiency: Designed to fit modern workspaces, Ricoh scanners operate with energy efficiency to reduce power consumption, supporting sustainable office environments.

Huang revealed: “At every level, companies and their employees are exploring and evaluating AI and its long-term potential. In IDC’s 2025 U.S. Commercial PCD Survey, fielded in September, respondents were queried about their company’s overall AI usage, as well as planned AI PC deployments.” He disclosed: “When asked what software will specifically benefit from AI PCs, the majority chose productivity software (66%), document creation software (51%), and communications software (49%).”

Huang explained: “These results indicate IT leaders see broad benefits in deploying AI PCs. AI will enable deeper levels of data analysis, help users brainstorm and create higher-quality content faster, and improve remote communications and collaboration. Two thirds of IT leaders say AI capabilities will be very important or higher when purchasing their next PCs.”

“Device selection criteria often varied across our survey. 24% of respondents say a system’s software catalog is most important. 22% identified latency. Another 16% say TOPS (throughput), with TOPS being the most popular standardized metric used in the industry today,” he added.

In his conclusion, the Research VP affirmed: “The incoming era of AI transformation is both a technological and a demographic shift. Younger workers are more engaged with and have higher expectations for AI technologies. As this demographic shift accelerates, your future workforce will have higher expectations for their organization’s AI tools, capabilities, and strategies.”
